Special Activities
Special activities are the essential functions of school life which give opportunity for recreation, relaxation, and expression of truths learned in study, classes, and devotional periods. Because extra-curricular activities take time, students are encouraged not to become involved in too many groups or organizations, even though each may be worthwhile.
The Student Handbook contains further explanation of these activities.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
If the activity (such as basketball or ensemble) demands trips out of Moberly, it is suggested that students participate in only one such group. This helps to avoid scheduling conflicts when two or more groups have activities at the same time. A student must be enrolled in eight or more hours of classes before qualifying to be a member of the college choir,
the cheerleading squad, or an ensemble. Members of an intercollegiate athletic team generally must be full-time students (twelve or more hours). Students are eligible for participation as cheerleaders, in a varsity sport, or in an ensemble group only if their grade point average (GPA) is C (2.0) or better, and if they failed no more than one course during the previous semester.
Participants in intercollegiate sports must also meet the scholastic requirements set forth by the Midwest Christian College Conference, which requires all players to maintain a 2.0 GPA.
HARVESTERS
Harvesters is composed of students and faculty who have a special interest in the evangelistic activity of the church throughout the world. The Harvesters missions club sponsors the annual Missions Emphasis Week each fall and missions trips over Christmas break and Spring break.
The group heightens missions awareness, hosts visiting missionaries, and provides financial assistance for students who participate in mission trips.
STUDENT COUNCIL
The Student Council gives leadership to the student body. It is composed of a Student Body President, Vice President, and Secretary/Treasurer. In addition, there are five at-large members chosen from the student body. At least one member is an off-campus, non-traditional student. It is sponsored by the Vice-President of Student Life.
It sponsors various extra-curricular activities, stimulates school spirit, represents student thinking to the faculty and the administration, and promotes the interests of students in keeping with the objectives of the College.
MUSIC DEPARTMENT
The Chorale and ensemble groups practice to represent Christ and the College in area churches and on extended tours. Students at Central may also develop their talents through private piano, organ, or voice lessons.
ATHLETICS
Central Christian College of the Bible is a member of the Midwest Christian College Conference, a league of eight Bible colleges in Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, and Nebraska. This conference sponsors competition and tournaments in men's and women's basketball, women's volleyball, and men's soccer.
Central students have the opportunity to compete in each of these conference sports. For those who lack the time or the interest for intercollegiate sports, Central offers an intramural sports program for all students.
