PED 221 Techniques of Teaching (3 hours)
A content and skills course that covers the basic principles and philosophy of Christian education. The course includes lesson plans and methods of teaching. (Every Spring)
PED 311 Education of Adults (2 hours)
A course that examines the nature of adults at each stage of growth and suggests ways of helping them learn at each stage. A lecture discussion course that will introduce the problems and needs of adults and how to minister to those needs. (Odd Fall)
PED 315 Audio Visuals (2 hours)
A skills development course designed to inspire students to creatively use all visual and audio tools and technology at their disposal with the objective of effectively communicating a message. (Odd Spring)
PED 322 Intro. to Christian Schools (2 hours)
A course designed to familiarize students with the modern Christian Day School movement. Students will receive guidance that will help them to start or work in a Christian school. A lecture discussion course with no prerequisites. (Odd Spring)
PED 323 Literature for Children (2 hours)
A course designed to survey the literature and related issues for children from pre school through young adult. The purpose of the course is to enable students to evaluate and select children's literature for teaching purposes. A lecture discussion course with no prerequisites. (Even Spring)
PED 326 Child Growth and Development (3 hours)
This course will examine the characteristics of individuals from early childhood to adult years. The physical, mental, and social characteristics are dealt with in order to determine how best to reach and teach the various age groups. (Every Fall)
PED 340 Photography for Teachers (2 hours)
An introduction to the 35mm camera and multi media productions, with emphasis on slides and video. A lecture demonstration course with hands on experience, culminating in a student presentation. No prerequisites, but Audio-Visuals is helpful and access to a 35 mm camera is important. (Occasional)
PED 365 Christian Education Curriculum (2 hours)
This course combines both the theoretical and the practical aspects of curriculum construction. Students will come to understand the elements of an effective curriculum from the theoretical perspective and will practically demonstrate that knowledge in curriculum designing, writing, and evaluating. (Every Fall)
PED 367 Philosophy of Education (2 hours)
A course designed to build the students personal philosophy of Christian education, by examining the outstanding educators of history. A lecture discussion type course. (Every Fall)
PED 368 Psychology of Education (2 hours)
A course that examines the teaching learning process in detail, in topical style. Includes a study of perception, motivation, discipline, feedback, etc. (Every Spring)
PED 373 Teaching the Lesson (2 hours)
This is a course designed to let the student apply principles of teaching to an actual practice situation. Students participate in group planning and preparation of lessons, quarterly planning, and actual, practice teaching. A minimum of four students must be enrolled for the class to be offered. (Every Fall)
PED 375 Creative Teaching (2 hours)
This course is designed to develop the general creative ability of the student and then to help him/her apply that creative problem solving to a variety of teaching learning areas. A lecture/discussion course with short projects. (Every Spring)
PED 380 Contemporary Children's Ministry (1 hour)
A practical course designed to prepare the student develop, evaluate, nurture and improve a Children's Ministry program. Special attention will be given to creating a vision, utilizing facilities, developing program goals and budgets and recruiting and leading teams. (Odd Fall)
PED 381 Small Group Methods (2 hours)
A course designed to familiarize students with the small groups movement in our country and churches, including its history, literature and methods. A practical course that includes practice in leading a small group. (Even Spring)
PED 382 Christian Education Administration (2 hours)
A course designed to acquaint students with the basic principles and skills of effective educational leadership and to give specific guidance on a variety of education duties. (Every Fall)
PED 395 Independent Study in Christian Education (1-4 hours)
This course is an opportunity for students to conduct independent research under the supervision of a faculty member. A minimum of 45 hours of research for each hour of credit, plus a final paper or project are required for the course.
