Withdrawal Procedures

The following process is followed by students withdrawing from class(es).

WITHDRAWING FROM A COURSE

  1. A student's enrollment in a course will not be noted on a transcript if the withdrawal is made within the first full week of the semester. The dropped course will not affect the student's GPA for the semester. However, if the course is dropped after the first week of classes, it will be included for financial aid purposes as a course attempted, which may affect the student's satisfactory academic progress. A student may withdraw from a course at any time up until the final three weeks of a semester.

  2. A student wishing to withdraw from a course must visit the Registrar's office. The fee is due before the process can begin.

  3. The student will sign the form and a statement expressing understanding of potential ramifications of the decision.

  4. The Registrar will inform the instructor that the student has withdrawn.

WITHDRAWAL FROM A COURSE FOR EXCESSIVE ABSENCES
In the case of a student who has missed more than 20% of the course meetings, the following process will be followed:

  1. The instructor notifies the student that the 20% excessive absence threshold has been met.

  2. If the 20% threshold is met before the midterm reporting period, the student will be given a midterm grade of FW by the professor, unless the student first drops the class by going to the Registrar's office and paying the withdrawal fee. A class dropped by the student will not affect the student's GPA for the semester, but will count for financial aid purposes as a course attempted, which may affect the student's satisfactory academic progress. The student is responsible for no other assignment or attendance in the class. If the student is not willing or able to pay the drop fee, or if the drop deadline has passed, the instructor will give the student a grade of "FW" for the class. The student is responsible for no other assignment or attendance in the class.

  3. If the 20% threshold is met after the midterm reporting period, the student will be given a final grade of F by the professor, unless the student drops the class before the drop deadline by going to the Registrar's office and paying the withdrawal fee.

  4. An appeal process is available for a student who believes there are extenuating circumstances leading to the excessive absences. In that case, it is the student's responsibility to contact the VP of Academics with written evidence of the absences. (Written evidence may include documentation from medical facilities, family members, legal authorities) The student should continue to attend class and do assignments while the appeal is considered by the faculty.

  5. The student's appeal will be considered at the next regularly scheduled faculty meeting. If the faculty approves the appeal, the student will be allowed to stay in class. If the faculty rejects the appeal, the student must pay the fee to drop (if before the drop deadline) or receive a grade of "FW" or "F" for the course(s).

WITHDRAWING FROM THE COLLEGE VOLUNTARILY

  1. Any student wishing to withdraw from school during the semester must first visit the VP of Student Life and explain the reasons for leaving.

  2. After talking to the VP of Student Life, the student should visit the Registrar (who will confirm that the VP of Student Life is aware of the withdrawal).

    1. If the drop deadline has not yet been reached, the student's GPA for the semester will not be affected by the withdrawal. However, courses dropped after the first week of classes will be included for financial aid purposes as attempted hours, which may affect the satisfactory academic progress if the student returns to Central in the future. The fee for the dropped courses will be charged to the student's account.
    2. If the drop deadline has passed, the Registrar will allow the student to receive a grade of "F" for the class(es) from the instructor(s). The student is responsible for no other assignment or attendance in the class.

  3. The Registrar will distribute copies of the withdrawal form to the Financial Aid Director, the Accounting Manager, and the student's academic file. The Registrar will contact the instructors via e-mail or phone to inform of the student's status (dropped or failing) and to determine the student's last day of attendance, if necessary.

DISMISSAL FROM THE COLLEGE

  1. Any student suspended or dismissed by the VP of Student Life will be considered immediately withdrawn from all courses.

  2. If the dismissal takes place before the drop deadline, the student will receive a grade of W for all courses currently enrolled in.

  3. If the dismissal takes place after the drop deadline, the student will receive a grade of "F" for all courses currently enrolled in.
