MOBERLY, Mo. - CCCB coach Josh Sanchez likes opening the season with a game his team isn't supposed to win.
The Saints were heavily out-matched in Tuesday's season opener with Central Methodist University, but there were plenty of positives for the hosts despite a 4-0 loss.
"I think it shows us what we need to work on without costing us a game we should have won," Sanchez said. "Hopefully this helps us later on to win the games we should."
A year ago CMU, a member of the NAIA, dealt CCCB a 10-0 setback to start the 2006 season. This time around the game stayed tied at 0-0 until the Eagles scored on a penalty kick in the 29th minute.
CMU added a second goal in the 35th minute to make it 2-0 at the half, and a pair of goals in the 69th and 73rd minutes finished out the scoring.
CCCB was out-shot 40-5 in the game. Saints goalkeeper Barry Richardson recorded 27 saves.
The men will face Pillsbury Baptist Bible College in Owatonna, Minn., this Friday, while Saturday's game against Crossroads College has been cancelled.
The Saints are hoping to schedule another opponent to fill Saturday's opening.
