MOBERLY, Mo. Central Christian College of the Bible scored in the first six minutes, then again in the last six to upset the defending
NCCAA Division II national champion Manhattan Christian College (Kan.) 2-1 on Saturday in Midwest Christian College Conference play.
The win over Manhattan Christian was the first ever for the Saints in the program's 12-year history. Manhattan Christian hadn't lost to an
MCCC opponent in six seasons, and it also marked their first loss to an NCCAA Division II opponent since falling in the
semifinals of the national championships in 2006.
CCCB (6-1-0, 3-1-0 MCCC) wasted no time finding its way on the board as Michael Flynn scored on a header from Jammie Lowe just 5:25 into the
game. The play started when Lowe launched a free kick near the Crusaders' sideline to the far side of the box. Flynn ran in and redirected the
ball past the keeper to make it 1-0.
The score remained 1-0 until the 22nd minute when Manhattan Christian's Jared Stafos broke free in the middle of the field to make it 1-1.
Dustan Corcoran provided the game-winner for CCCB when he returned a deflected shot from Flynn past the keeper with 6:04 left to play.
The Saints were outshot 15-4 in the game. CCCB goalkeeper Adam Strong collected 20 saves, while Manhattan Christian's David Ham had three.
On Friday the Saints defeated Barclay College (Kan.) 3-1 on goals by Lowe, Seth Harken and Winsten Dickerson.
Lowe opened the scoring in the 30th minute on an assist by Michael Butrum. The score stayed at 1-0 until the second half when Harken scored
unassisted in the 64th minute for a 2-0 lead.
Barclay narrowed the gap to one in the 81st minute, but Dickerson sealed the win with 2:09 left on an assist by Dane Denker.
The Saints have one day off before hosting Baptist Bible College on Monday at 4 p.m.
