No. 10 Saints set to host MCCC Tournament

MOBERLY, Mo. — The 10th-ranked Central Christian College of the Bible Saints will host the 2008 Midwest Christian College Conference Soccer Tournament, which takes place Thursday, Oct. 23 through Saturday, Oct. 25 in Moberly, Mo.

The first two rounds of the tournament will be played at Shepherd Fields on Kwix Road, which sits adjacent to the CCCB campus on the northwest corner of the block. The championship round of the tournament will take place on the CCCB soccer field.

The Saints wrapped up their first-ever MCCC title last weekend and own the top seed for the tournament. CCCB, who is a perfect 8-0 at home this season, takes on eighth seed Vennard College at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.

The tournament gets under way on Thursday with fourth seed Ozark Christian College facing fifth seed Grace University at 9 a.m. Third seed Barclay College will play sixth seed Calvary Bible College at 11:15 a.m., followed by second seed Manhattan Christian College and seventh seed Nebraska Christian College at 1:30 p.m.

Day two of the tournament will feature four games with the same start times. The fifth place game will get under way at 10 a.m. on Saturday, followed by the third place game at 12:30 p.m. and the championship at 3 p.m.

Admission is free to CCCB students, families of CCCB athletes, and family members of faculty and staff. Visitors will be charged each day — $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 3 to 12. Children under the age of 3 are free. A weekend pass can be purchased for $12 for adults and $6 for children (ages 3 to 12).

The 2008 MCCC Soccer Tournament T-shirts will be available for $10. The CCCB Student Council will also be selling various concessions throughout the tournament.

The Saints, 13-3 on the year, dropped from No. 6 to No. 10 in the latest NCCAA Division II soccer poll following their 1-0 loss to Lincoln Christian College on Oct. 6. They responded to the loss by shutting out their next three opponents by a combined score of 17-0.

CCCB has this weekend off to prepare for the MCCC Tourney, which is followed by the Central Region Tournament in Manhattan, Kan., running Oct. 31 through Nov. 1.
