Professor Reese Honored as a Missouri Christian Convention Honored Servant

Mr. Gareth Reese, Emeritus Professor of New Testament at Central Christian College of the Bible, was honored at the Missouri Christian Convention held on March 30 & 31 at the Tan-Tar-A Resort in Osage Beach.  Pictured above, Dan Hargrave, president of the 2012 Missouri Christian Convention, presented the Missouri Christian Convention Honored Servant Award to Mr. and Mrs. Reese during the Saturday morning main session of the convention.  A slide show was presented prior to the presentation with pictures that represented his ministry at Central Christian College of the Bible and his family.

Since 1957, Mr. Reese has served as the head of the New Testament Department at Central Christian College of the Bible in Moberly, MO. In addition to teaching courses on New Testament books, he has served as professor of Greek Language, and also taught courses in missions and apologetics. For 14 years he served as head coach of the basketball team, and for over 20 years as athletic director.  He served as faculty representative to the Midwest Christian College Conference, an athletic conference of several Bible Colleges, which he helped found in 1962. From 1958 to 2001 he served as the Librarian at the college.

For twelve years he served as evangelist with the churches at Cherry Box, Berry, Benton City, Pleasant Grove, and Hunnewell, Missouri. In the years since he has been traveling throughout the Midwest on weekends, representing the college, and recruiting young people into the specialized leadership ministry for churches and mission fields. In recent years he has also held several interim ministries to churches in the area to provide stability and leadership while churches were seeking preachers.

As an author, Professor  Reese has written extensive course syllabi on eleven books of the New Testament, and a syllabus of 400 pages of supplementary notes for use in Greek classes at Central Christian College. He is the author of several college textbooks. The first one, New Testament History: Acts, was first published in 1966, and over 50,000 copies are now in print.  This commentary has been translated into Russian, Chinese, and Spanish. His second book, New Testament Epistles: Romans, came off the presses just before Christmas, 1987.   It too was translated into Russian.  Other published commentaries include New Testament Epistles: Hebrews, New Testament Epistles: 1 & 2 Timothy and Titus, New Testament Epistles: 1 Corinthians, New Testament Epistles: Peter and Jude, New Testament Epistles: James and 1,2,3 John, and New Testament Epistles: 2 Corinthians & Galatians.

The Missouri Christian Convention Honored Servant Award was new this year, and two people received the award this year.  Those receiving the award must be a Missouri resident who has contributed greatly to the Kingdom of God in their service and ministry.  Gareth Reese and Ziden Nutt, of Good News Productions, International in Joplin, MO, were the recipients for the 2012 convention.
