MOBERLY, Mo. A large group of community members, Ambassadors from the Chamber of Commerce, alumni, students and friends gathered on Friday
morning, February 29, for a groundbreaking ceremony for the Walton Student Center at Central Christian College of the Bible.
Many members of the Walton family were also in attendance for the special occasion including Bill, Shirley, their son (John from Lake Havasu,
Ariz.), and their daughter (Judy Grotjan from Davenport, Fla.). Also in attendance were grandchildren Stephen Walton, (CCCB student),
Michelle (Omaha, Neb.), and Jadyn and Trent Grotjan from Davenport, Fla.
Bill Walton came to Central in 1980 and became the Dean of Students in 1981. He served for 25 years as the Dean of Students/Vice President of
Student Life. Bill has always been a student advocate, defending students and fighting for their rights.
Over and over again, Walton challenged the college to have a dedicated student-life space or facility where they could step away from the pressures of school and rest, relax and
refocus their minds. As a tribute to his dedicated service, faithful commitment to Christ and advocacy for the students, the Board of
Directors voted unanimously to name the new building, the Walton Student Center.
The present challenge is to raise the necessary funding including foundation proposals and other gifting opportunities. The administration hopes to
begin construction in the fall.
