Certificate Enrollment Fee:  $600

The Teacher Preparation Certificate (TPC) allows Central students to become public school teachers in states where the American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence is approved.  The American Board is a non-profit organization established in 2001 through funding from the US Department of Education and endorsed by FloridaIdahoMississippiMissouriNevadaNew HampshireOklahomaPennsylvaniaSouth Carolina,Tennessee, and Utah as an official route to teacher licensure.  Those who have been graduated or will soon be graduated from Central with a bachelor’s degree are eligible for the TPC.

American Board provides preparation for teaching in the following areas:  Biology, Chemistry, English Language Arts, General Science, History, Math, and Physics.  Different states accept various subjects provided by American Board (www.abcte.org/teach).  Each state requires a minimum cumulative GPA in the bachelor’s degree and satisfactory completion of the American Board material for licensure.

Central utilizes the American Board training and testing as a portion of the Teacher Preparation Certificate.  This 48-credit curriculum includes the 30 credits of the CBK, as well as 18 credits in teacher education and general studies courses.

This certificate can also be completed in nine semesters as part of a BS degree in Christian Education or Christian Ministries (147 total credits). An additional fee applies for application to this program and for the independent study courses as they are taken.
